The first time I met Duey I didn’t like him. It was in University, and my team was playing his in volleyball. We were losing and I remember Duey was dancing around, cheering everytime he spiked a ball onto our side. I wanted to smash the ball into his face. I was more mad that we were losing than at his dancing. He did it in a funny kind of way.
Duey is one of those guys that everyone instantly likes — except for me. He can talk to anyone about any subject and make it be interesting. He also has the ability to make you feel good about yourself in any situation. This is one of the main reasons that makes him such a good trainer.

On August 16, 1501 an artist by the name of Michelangelo was commissioned by the Arte della Lana to create “David.” It was to be carved out of a particular piece of Italian marble that had been worked on by two previous artists but failed in their attempts. So, after 25 years of sitting dormant in a church in the northern Alps of Tuscany, it was finally delivered to Florence where Michelangelo could start his work. Two and half years of chipping, sanding and polishing this marble, he finally finished it and unveiled his work at The Palazzo della Signoria. Everybody marveled at his creation and could not comprehend how somebody so young could create something so remarkable. His response, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free”.
Now just as Michelangelo saw David within the marble, I too see a work of art trapped inside everyone of us. Now all we have to do is believe in ourselves.
Mahatma Ghandi once said:

- Believe in yourself. Truly believe that you can lose the weight you want.
- Set clear and specific goals. Short- and long-term. Ie. short-term goal — eat 5x/day, 3 meals and 2 snacks. Long-term goal — lose 20lbs in 20 weeks.
- Choose an activity you enjoy!
- Get a running partner, join a running group or get a trainer — be accountable!
- Set a specific time each day to run.
- Show up with the right attitude!
